It has often been said that everyone has a book inside them waiting to burst out. Writing a short book about your favorite subject, hobby, or a subject you are an expert in, and selling it on eBay or via the internet can be a very profitable project. If you need inspiration the eBook Download Shop offer an excellent free guide to writing your own eBook. You get it free, together with a free version of the excellent SmartDD digital download manager software, free when you sign up to their newsletter.
Alternatively I would recommend Paula Brett’s excellent Operation eBook for a “hands-on” guide to writing your own eBook.

Even if you feel unable to write your own eBook there are many UK based on-line shops where you can buy eBooks with resell rights which you can resell (for example The eBook Download Shop and eBook Central). Alternatively, if you live outside the UK I would recommend Willow Windmill eBooks.

If a customer buys an eBook from your website then the easiest way to get the eBook to them is by sending them a download link. Many people start by simply emailing the eBook to their customers as an email attachment when they notice someone has purchased something. This is probably ok to start with but as you begin to sell more and more eBooks you will quickly find this manual method becoming very time consuming. Also of course there will be a time delay between when someone buys the eBook and when you next switch on your computer and get around to sending them their eBook. It is much better, and less time consuming, to arrange for your eBooks to be sent to customers automatically. You can configure Outlook Express to do this for you (click HERE for details of an eBook I sell which explains how to do this), or you can purchase software to run on your webspace to do this for you automatically even when your PC is switched off or you are on holiday.
It should however be remembered that although you can sell eBooks via your own online shop using download links YOU MUST sell them on a CD if you are selling via eBay. If you sell digital products such as eBooks on eBay and send them to buyers as a download link eBay will close your account.
As soon as someone purchases something from you and makes a payment it a nice touch to immediately send them an email thanking them for their purchase (and perhaps recommending some of your other eBooks on a similar subject). One way to automate this is to use software such as MyDigitalDispatch (which is the software I use so I can automatically send emails to both my eBay and website customers even when my PC is switched off or I am on holiday (click HERE for details).

Finally, I would recommend subscribing to an "Autoresponder" service so you can offer your customers a regular newsletter or eZine so they can keep in touch with the new eBooks you offer and through which you can share help and advice and discuss topics of interest. I use the Aweber autoresponder service (click HERE for details and a risk free 30 day trial) so I can offering a newsletter and follow-up emails to my customers.
